Leroy Merlin France and TDI co-construct transportation efficiency
TDI has been supporting Leroy Merlin France in managing its transportation for ten years. After implementing the Expedito and Extracking solutions, the French home improvement retailer is launching the integration of a third TDI service, the Exwarning alerts tool.

1.7 million parcels shipped in 2023. This illustrates the importance of transportation and delivery for Leroy Merlin. This is likely why the French home improvement retailer partners with top-notch providers to operate its supply chain. Among these is transportation expert TDI, whose digital solutions ensure the smooth flow of home deliveries and parcel pickup points from Leroy Merlin France’s 16 warehouses. To do so, TDI provides Leroy Merlin with the multi-carrier shipper TMS, Expedito, as well as the Extracking module, dedicated to tracking parcels for the carriers integrated into Expedito. A total of 10 carriers are connected to Expedito, offering different services: home delivery, parcel pickup points, secured deliveries, with or without handling, etc. In 2023, 1.7 million transportation orders were sent to the carriers via TDI’s solution, with over 10% of orders in express shipping (next-day and two-day delivery).
SMART TRANSPORTATION AT THE SERVICE OF PERFORMANCE
Interfaced with its client’s WMS, Expedito automatically generates carrier labels via APIs and manages booking with carriers, providing, according to Jonathan Roussel, IT Warehouse and Transport Manager at Leroy Merlin France, “a significant time saving during implementation and simplified integration of new carriers.”
At the same time, Extracking collects all tracking events from carriers, which are then translated into a unified reference system, ensuring more reliable data processing and more efficient and faster delivery tracking.
Thus, each event related to the carriers is reported by TDI to its client, providing them with a valuable database to identify anomalies, address them, and notify the customer in case of any issues. The data flow is integrated into the company’s information system and helps improve, in particular, the processing of returns. “By capturing tracking events, we can identify refused deliveries and refund our customers more quickly. We continuously work with TDI to refine the solutions and carry out specific developments. Thanks to their tracking tools, we can measure the fulfillment rate of warehouse departure flow, which is the best among all our flows. It is around 93%, close to our target of 95%,” highlights Côme Lammens, B2C Transport Manager at Leroy Merlin France. Finally, to combat fraud in home delivery, Leroy Merlin has implemented a new delivery service with a signature requirement, where the IT process was managed with TDI, thus reducing the risk of new fraud incidents.
MEETING THE CHALLENGE OF AN EVER-IMPROVING CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
Building on this decade-long partnership, Leroy Merlin and TDI are continuing their collaboration by launching the integration of Exwarning, an alert and shipment processing solution to handle deliveries with anomalies. “Here, our goal is to flag orders that are at risk of not being delivered on time. It allows us to pay special attention to various risk levels and provide the quickest possible response to our customers. Our core value lies in keeping our promises and our commitment to our customers,” emphasizes Côme Lammens.
Lastly, Leroy Merlin and its partner TDI are working on other projects: migrating to Expedito version 3, improving the data anonymization process, and enabling Leroy Merlin customers to choose specific dates and times for appointments on its e-commerce site. “We are constantly thinking about our transport strategy and how we can enhance the delivery options offered to our customers. Our business ideas and desires must be supported by our digital solutions. With TDI, we have a challenger-to-challenger relationship, continually co-constructing to generate value on both sides,” concludes Côme Lammens.
